My Great Grandmother was Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Kershaw who lived at 41 Gauntly Street, Hysongrew, Nottingham UK during the First World War. Two of her sons, Joseph William Kershaw ( my Grandfather ) and Leonard Kershaw, both joined the Australian Army and served with the AIF on the Western Front. Both returned to Australia. They were joined in Australia by atleast two sisters, Doris who come with her husband Thomas Hayes and Clare whose married name was Overton. I wonder whether these details make a connection with anyone in the Nottingham area.

Kiaora from New Zealand.

I am searching for any information on a ROBERT KERSHAW aka ROBERT EDWARD KERSHAW that came to New Zealand during the mid 1800's from Yorkshire England.I was told that Robert was a Naval Officer and came to New Zealand to fight in the Maori Land Wars.Robert Kershaw married my Great Great Aunt; Mauruuru Pango Tarawhiti from Waikato and Taranaki. They both lived and died in Taranaki. If anyone of the Kershaw family can provide me with any information, geneology or photographs on Robert Kershaw both my family(whanau)and I would be most grateful. After more than 20 years we have not managed to find any specific information on him or his family origins and history.

Good Day to all the Kershaws. I'm asuming the Kershaw name is very steep in the west yorkshire area. I live in Bradford and have always done so for 30 years now. My father is Peter Kershaw, Born 11.11.52. My Grandad was called Ronald Kersahw born I think in 1925 but I'll double check that. Married to Dorothy Eileen. My Great Grandad was called Sam who died crica 1977/78. I really need to look up my family history but was just having a quick search on the web and found this site. From what I know my Great Grandad lived in Low Moor not too far from the train track down there, and My Grandad lived in Woodside where ironically enough my little sister lives in their old house.

Am searching for my great grandfather's ancestors. His name was also John Kershaw (b.31 Dec 1951 Northowram; d.1920 Queensbury). He married Mary Ann Sutcliffe (b.1850 Ovenden, d.1940 Great Horton)on 25 Oct 1873 at the Halifax Parish. John's mother was Hannah Kershaw (b.1821 Northowram) who was unmarried at the time of John's birth. In turn, Hannah Kershaw's mother was Sarah Kershaw (b.1785 Clayton) who is listed as a widow in the 1841 census. I have, however, been unable to identify Sarah's husband or her maiden name.
Other info: John had a brother named Seebright. John and Mary Ann had 9 children, one of whom was my grandfather - Sebright Kershaw. Mary Ann died in 1940 at her daughter's (Beatrice Kershaw Duke Illingworth) home in Great Horton.
Any help in identifying Sarah Kershaw's husband and maiden name would be appreciated.

Hello. I'm in the U.S., and I happened upon your page by accident. Just thought it was funny, though, because my mother is from Bradford. In fact, we were just there this spring for her mother's funeral. :( Just wanted to drop a friendly hello from Washington State.
